How Much Time Does John Cena Have Left in the WWE?

Is the WWE wrapping up John Cena's current run? John Cena fans have been enjoying the 16-time world champion's return to the WWE. As you probably know, the current Screen Actors' Guild strike opened the door for Cena to return to the WWE. The man the WWE is now calling its GOAT has not only appeared on TV but worked in matches including his tag team match alongside LA Knight at WWE Fastlane. However, a new report from Fightful Select suggests Cena's time could be winding down.

‍

Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp recently was asked about Cena's future in the WWE. Sapp took a question on his Patreon account about whether the WWE expects Cena to stay as long as the strike continues. Here's what Sapp told his Patreon subsrcibers:

That’s what WWE certainly believes, but they definitely have him, at least, through these appearances through October. He is set for tonight’s SmackDown. He is set for next week’s SmackDown … then after that it is question marks.”

Sapp also noted:

“After that they’re doing Hamburg Germany and Berlin and London, all that stuff, but as a result of him being on the October 27th show, he will also be on the November 3rd show, because they’re doing a double taping that night.”

The WWE finds itself in a delicate situation due to the volatility of the actors' strike. While there has been progress in negotiations, union representatives don't appear to have anything hammered out. On one hand, the WWE has an incredible opportunity to book one of its most beloved performers. On the other hand, it doesn't know when Cena will have to return to Hollywood.

‍

A Welcome Opportunity

The actors' strike has been a welcome opportunity for the WWE, John Cena, and his fans. The WWE has done an effective job using Cena to help forward angles, put wrestlers over, and even work matches.  Cena, who truly seems to love appearing in the WWE whenever he can, has taken advantage of this unexpected opportunity to come back for several weeks, connecting with fans who have not seen him perform for this length of time in years. Cena's fans have to be happy and so far, there is no sign that the 16-time world champion has wore out his welcome.

A Balancing Act for the WWE and for John Cena

The WWE and John Cena are both engaged in a balancing act however. The WWE knows that Cena could leave at any time thus it has been careful to keep from booking him in long-term programs. Although it hasn't been talked about, John Cena has to balance his love for the WWE with concerns over his well-being. Cena has repeatedly said he knows his time in the ring is nearing its end due to the effects of Father Time. One would also think he has to be aware he can't risk his health by working too many matches or taking sick bumps that could lead to him losing a film role.

Right now, the WWE and John Cena appear to be making the most of this amazing opportunity. With any luck, Cena might get to work a few more weeks. Even if he doesn't, it's been an enjoyable run. Depending on the future, this may be the WWE Universe's last chance to see Cena on a regular basis. While a retirement match is certain to happen, a lengthy run like this won't be possible unless Cena's acting career implodes and he's stuck doing CarShield commercials.
