SummerSlam 2024 could be about to add a special guest referee to one of the top matches on the card.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), a special guest referee is planned for one of the matches:

“As of right now there is a guest referee spot scheduled for one of the top bouts. I don’t know which one it is, but was told it’s not Ripley vs. Morgan. Most figure that match is going to end when Dominik comes out and then he’ll help someone win, whether overtly or through a screw-up and the storyline will go from there. I can speculate Rollins as referee for Punk vs. McIntyre but that’s only a guess.”

According to Meltzer, Punk is expected to be cleared for SummerSlam, and will likely face Drew McIntyre:

“The Drew McIntyre suspension is pure storyline and not designed as a cover reason to delay the McIntyre vs. C.M. Punk match with the idea Punk hasn’t been cleared. Punk is still expected to be cleared and wrestle on that show. But we were given the impression that it could be used as a backup plan if needed. The belief is that Punk went to Orlando, FL, as part of the process to get cleared earlier this week.”

SummerSlam 2024 is just 15-days away.
