Is WWE Looking to Make a Statement?
It appears the WWE is loading up for its Backlash PLE in France. The WWE's post-WrestleMania event is headed to Paris, France on 4 May. However, the WWE will also air SmackDown the night before, bringing in even more Superstars for the WWE Universe in France to get a look at.
It's clear the WWE is going all in on its international shows. So far, the WWE has four international PLEs booked for 2024 including shows in Perth, Australia; Toronto, Canada; Berlin, Germany; and Paris, France. This is a huge departure from the WWE's past practice of running PLEs largely in the United States (and occasionally Canada).
The case can be made that the WWE is preparing audiences for more WWE shows. This could involve the long-rumored addition of NXT developmental programs in foreign markets such as Europe, India, and Mexico. It could also be a means of helping the WWE secure better international TV rights deals by increasing the demand for the product.
Whatever the case, the WWEÂ is clearly aiming to cement itself as a global company, not only in name, but in how it does business.
What do you think of these moves? Do you think the WWE will run more international shows?Â
