What Was The Rock's Answer?
Could the WWE Universe see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the Oval Office? It's been joked about in the past but it turns out there was major interest in Johnson running for the highest office in the land. However, what does "The People's Champion" think about this?
The former WWE Superstar turned box office Superstar discussed a potential political career during a recent interview with Trevor Noah. The Rock appeared on the What Now? With Trevor Noah podcast and Noah recalled a 2021 poll where 46% of American stated they'd support The Rock if he campaigned for President. The Rock told Noah that he had some incredible opportunities to run:
“That was an interesting poll that happened and I was really moved by that. I was really blown away and I was really honored. I’ll share this little bit with you: at the end of the year in 2022, I got a visit from the parties asking me if I was going to run, and if I could run.”
So what was The Rock's response to these offers?
“It was a big deal, and it came out of the blue. It was one after the other, and they brought up that poll, and they also brought up their own deep-dive research that would prove that should I ever go down that road [I’d be a real contender]. It was all very surreal because that’s never been my goal. My goal has never been to be in politics. As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.”
Inside the Ropes
If you've watched the TVÂ series, Young Rock, you know that the show is framed around The Rock's 2032 campaign for President as he looks back at his early life. That's not the only time a Rock as President scenario has been entertained. Fans who had the misfortune of playing WWE 2K20 may remember the MyCareer mode which showed a future timeline where The Rock was President. Is the Rock somehow destined to become President?
Johnson wouldn't be the first wrestler (or actor) to run for office. Jesse "The Body" Ventura shocked the world when he won the race for governor of Minnesota. Actor-turned politician Ronald Reagan was elected U.S. President in 1980, serving two terms. The Rock is only 51 which means he has plenty of time to run for President. Indeed, given the recent age of candidates and office holders, he could possibly wait for decades before throwing his hat into the ring.
Would you vote for The Rock? What do you think of political parties' interest in "The Great One" running for office?Â
