The five best talents who should fight Sting in his final match.

After being in professional wrestling for nearly four decades, the former WCW World heavyweight Champion has confirmed that he will hang up the boots for good at Revolution 2024. It’s been a bumpy ride for Sting. He had an incredible run in WCW, but when the promotion folded in 2001, he tried his hand at TNA Wrestling.

His run has plenty of highs and lows, but the veteran played a crucial part in the heyday of TNA. Then his WWE run happened. Other than a cool debut, Sting’s legs were cut short in his very first match. Following his bout against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions, it appeared that it was over for the WCW alumni as he suffered a major injury that would effectively end his WWE career.

Then he came to AEW. Though it’s been disappointing that Sting’s only been in tag team matches, there’s been a revitalized energy to the 64-year-old that was missing since his early TNA days. There’s no clear direction on who Sting will face. Hopefully, it’s in a one-on-one match that benefits him and his opponent. These are the five men that would be perfect against the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

Darby Allin

There’s multiple ways AEW can go about this. This can be the passing of the torch type match that finally solidifies Darby Allin as a main event star. This would be the perfect cap off their entire pairing in AEW. There’s also the possibility of turning Darby Allin heel. If the purpose is put over Sting in the end then it would be better if this was a heel vs. babyface match.

These two have been established since Sting entered AEW, so the turn would cut deeper because there’s genuine respect between one another. Plus, Darby has yet to be a heel, and it would be interesting to see how he’s cast in that role. Either way, the match should be about focusing on the future AEW star. Sting has yet to lose a match in AEW. Even if Darby isn’t put over in a match with Sting, the layout of the bout should make him look like a million bucks.

MJF

Preferably for the AEW World Title. We never got a true mission statement from the WCW World Heavyweight Champion over what he wanted to accomplish in AEW. It would be cool if his last match was for the AEW World Championship. MJF has proven to be a master inside of the ring so he’ll be able to carry Sting to a good (or even great) match, but like Allin before, this should be a passing of the torch to the new generation.

MJF is already established, but having the older generation acknowledge the talents of the current generation puts over MJF and the new generation stars that AEW is trying to build. If this is for the AEW World title then it would be a mistake for Sting to win it. MJF is officially the longest reigning champion in AEW History, so it would be wise for MJF to drop the belt to someone who would get a huge credibility boost by defeating the best champion in AEW’s era thus far.

Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson vs. a boom stick would be awesome. These two have different styles, but Danielson is such a master inside of the ring that he would be able to adjust to Sting’s limitations and give him the best singles match he’s had in decades.

Danielson doesn’t particularly need the boost from Sting so it wouldn’t harm him if he took the loss here. This is just an interesting stylistic match-up between the old-school wrestler vs. the indie veteran who’s considered the best in the world by many fans.

Kenny Omega

Like Bryan Danielson, the clash of styles is what is truly intriguing. It’s Kenny Omega, so you would be hard-pressed to find a bad match from the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Omega represents the new generation of wrestlers that evolved the business when Omega was having banger after banger down in New Japan.

This list is mainly composed of guys who could carry Sting to a great match one-on-one. Not only can Omega carry him to a high level, but also gives the match some incredible depth that elevates the emotion and stakes of their face-off.

Christian Cage

Christian Cage is on fire as a heel right now! Then again, the TNT Champion has always been a great talent all around. The scathing promos leading up to their battle should be great. Plus, it would add heat to the match because fans would desperately want Sting to get his hands on Cage. However, Christian is no slouch inside of the ring and can pull a solid match out of the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
