Heralded with the success of TNA, Scott D’Amore has been removed from his post.
Scott D’Amore has been fired from his role as TNA Wrestling President, the company has announced. Anthony Cicione, the President of TNA's parent company Anthem Entertainment Group, will take over, effective immediately.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson dropped a detailed report at the same time as TNA issued a press release, noting that the decision to remove D’Amore from his position came “directly” from Len Asper, the owner of Anthem. The belief is that this decision was done to bring TNA further into the Anthem family, the idea being that a “stronger synergy” will benefit both sides. TNA staff and talent were reportedly on a Zoom call as the news trickled through to address the situation.
Although the official confirmation comes as a shock, PWInsider hinted that there had been “rumblings” of a change of power following discussions had with members of TNA’s roster by Anthony Cicione and Ariel Shnerer, Anthem’s Vice President of Business Development. This was viewed as Anthem “preparing for life without D’Amore”. Scott had been an executive for TNA/IMPACT Wrestling since late 2017, being brought back first as co-Executive Vice President alongside Don Callis before his 2023 promotion to President.
What this means for TNA’s future is uncertain. Per the PWInsider report, there was talk of TNA “cutting back” on touring by spring (thus far, March 23 is their last confirmed date), while the possibility of reverting to live weekly episodes of iMPACT!, rather than a taped format, has also been discussed.
Heralded extensively with the success of TNA Wrestling following its 2010s drought, Scott D’Amore’s detailed history with the promotion goes back to 2003, when he first joined the company as a backstage agent and on-screen manager. Alongside his Head of Creative promotion, D’Amore is credited, too, with the creation of the Knockouts division in 2007, which has widely been viewed as one of pro wrestling’s all-time greatest women’s divisions.
As of this publication, Scott D’Amore is understood to be the only termination from TNA.
