She has a strong argument...
As we head towards WrestleMania in early April, there will inevitably be a ton of discourse surrounding which match should main event night one. We already know that Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II will main event night two, yet when it comes to night one, it’s hard to work out what match will take the prestigious spot.
According to Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley during an interview with MailSport, she believes that her match vs. Becky Lynch is strong enough to close out night one:
"Mami already main evented her WrestleMania. Why not do the next one as well? I think Becky Lynch and I stepping into the ring is Mania main event worthy. I really do. The last time we faced each other was NXT leading up to Survivor Series and WarGames. That was Mama's time to shine and it's still Mami's time to shine. Mami is always on top and I've proved that time and time again…”
Ripley continued by saying:
“If we are given the opportunity. If we take the opportunity to be main event, I hope Becky Lynch is ready. She can cut me off and run her mouth and say that I'm a lazy champion; I just proved I'm not a lazy champion. I went out there and beat Nia Jax, the person that beat you. I also beat Lyra Valkyria, the person that beat you for the NXT Women's Championship. That's two for two. Why not make it three for three and beat you at WrestleMania…”
The confirmed matches in contention for the main event spot currently seem to be the aforementioned Ripley vs. Lynch, Bayley vs. IYO SKY and Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre. There is also a chance that if The Rock & Reigns vs. Rollins & Rhodes is made official, then that match will main event night one.
Based on social media discourse, there continues to be a strong push to see Bayley main event her first ever WrestleMania, yet unfortunately, Bayley is barely featured in any substantial marketing for WrestleMania XL, so it’s not exactly clear if WWE have a main event slot for Bayley in mind.
If WWE proceeds with giving Reigns and Rhodes two main events over one weekend, then this could lead to severe backlash, as a portion of the fan base will no doubt believe that two main events over one weekend is unfair to the other talent. Ultimately, if WWE creates strong, compelling stories heading into the other top matches, then this argument will be hard to disagree with.
