The plot thickens...
It’s still yet to be confirmed if The Rock will be wrestling at WrestleMania 40 this year, and now Dave Meltzer has stated that The Rock hasn’t signed on to wrestle as of yet.
Writing in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer writes:
“According to WWE sources, Johnson has not officially signed a deal to wrestle for the company but the key word said about that is “Yet.” It is known that he is willing and said to be wanting to do a match with Roman Reigns and is strong on doing it at WrestleMania, but that is not locked in as of this week. It was suggested to us the idea of seeing how much Saudi Arabia would pay extra to get a Dwayne Johnson match given the crazy numbers they’ve paid for boxing matches, although it was noted that Johnson himself sees WrestleMania a this point as what he is most interested in…”
“One person in the company noted that Johnson was “headstrong” about wrestling Reigns at WrestleMania.”
Meltzer continued by saying:
“Johnson seemed to reiterate that later on ESPN First Take, saying, “Look, you guys know, I feel like you know me - I'm a long-gamer. I like to build. And what this is, if myself and Roman Reigns were to main event WrestleMania, and I mean this very respectfully of all the WrestleManias prior because I grew up in this business and I love it, we could possibly put on - with us as the main event and this incredible group of men and women who are these incredible performers - we could possibly put on the greatest and the biggest WrestleMania of all time.”
“There's a chance. I love this business, I love pro wrestling, I love WWE. But also I have this deep passion to grow it and to build it. And if we're going to do something like this, I want the world to watch.”
We should get an accurate picture of the WrestleMania 40 card following tomorrow’s Royal Rumble event.
