On this day in 2022, Sasha Banks and Naomi - the then-holders of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships - walked out of WWE on acrimonious terms.

Feeling as though they were being mistreated as WWE’s female doubles champs - for context, both were reportedly scheduled to lose to the respective Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champions at upcoming events, rather than focus on and uplift the Women’s Tag Team Championships - Banks and Naomi were set to have walked out of the May 15, 2022 Raw broadcast, where they were set to partake in a Six Pack Challenge. Both later officially departed WWE and thus, the titles were left vacant.

These weren’t the only women’s tag team titles in WWE, though; the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships also existed at the time, while WWE had previously endeavoured to create a women’s tag team division between 1983 and 1988.
