Today, we remember the late André The Giant on what would have been his 78th birthday.

Born André René Roussimoff on May 19, 1946, André The Giant is the larger-than-life wrestling superstar, whose immense stature at 7’4” and a colossal 520 pounds poured fear into the eyes of anyone who dared oppose him. Rising to global renown throughout WWE’s Golden Era, primarily for his iconic WrestleMania 3 bout vs. defending WWE Champion Hulk Hogan, ‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ was a performer like no other.

Tragically passing away on January 28, 1993 at the age of just 46, André left behind him a Hall of Fame-worthy career and was, rather aptly, the inaugural inductee into WWE’s Hall of Fame that year, a tradition that started in his honour and one that remains a WrestleMania weekend fixture to this very day.
