The phenomenon of the Golden Era; can you complete the card for the first WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event?
On this day in 1985, WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event was transmitted for the first time.
The brainchild of then-company Chairman Vince McMahon and Saturday Night Live executive producer Dick Ebersol, the sporadically-broadcast programme proved to be a ratings success, drawing its highest rating - 11.6! - for its March 14, 1987 broadcast; there, a Battle Royal headlined involving soon-to-be WrestleMania 3 headliners Andre The Giant and WWE Champion, Hulk Hogan.
Airing its final episode in November 1992 before a brief, five-episode revival in the dying days of the Ruthless Aggression Era, Saturday Night’s Main Event has been one of WWE’s most cherished series. It is oft-touted for a potential comeback, particularly when AEW launched its Battle of the Belts catalogue of specials in 2022.
That, however, is unlikely, so the pre-existing history of SNME will have to do. Count yourself as a diehard fan of the show and reckon you can complete the card for the debut episode?
You have three minutes. Good luck!
