When is Rey Expected Back?
Time for more details about Rey Mysterio's knee injury including estimates on when he might be back in action. As previously reported, the recently dethroned United States Champion underwent knee surgery. Rey was written off TV on the 10 November edition of SmackDown after Santos Escobar turned heel, attacking Rey and kayfabe injuring him.
Haus of Wrestling is exclusively reporting:
Haus of Wrestling has learned that Mysterio has been working through a torn meniscus for about three months. The injury has slowly worsened, so he agreed to lose the WWE United States Championship to Paul and participate in the beatdown angle before heading off for his knee operation. He is expected to be out of action for around six to eight weeks while he recovers and will likely resume his feud with Escobar when he returns.
And when is Papa Rey expected back? According to the Haus of Wrestling report:
If everything goes to plan, that timeline will allow Mysterio to be available for the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 40 season.

There have been rumors of Rey renewing his feud with his wayward son Dominik as WrestleMania approaches. One common story is that the estranged father and son will work a mask vs hair match at WrestleMania 40. If Rey does return around the Rumble, it's easy to see a feud with Santos continuing into Mania.
This isn't Rey's first knee surgery. Indeed, "The Master of the 6-1-9" has had several throughout his career, dating back to the 1990s. Given Mysterio's incredibly fast-paced and high-flying style, it's incredible to think that the 48-year-old Superstar (who turns 49 this December) has been wrestling since he was 14 years old. Rey's passion for the industry can be seen through his willingness to work through injuries and continue working, despite the toll it's taken on his body.
That doesn't mean the WWE Hall of Famer is afraid to change up his style to reflect his body's age-related limitations. That's not to say that Mysterio works a dull style. While Rey doesn't perform the same moves he did during his early years, he's developed a new repertoire to keep fans entertained that incorporates a more sensible array of high-flying moves with strikes and mat wrestling.
