However, Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men Podcast believes he's learned who AEW's signing is. According to Zarian:

“I was told Will Ospreay. That is a big deal. Huge deal because WWE was actively pursuing him. Will make the fans happy, wrestler of the year.”

Wrestling's Hottest Free Agent?

Will Ospreay has been in the news ever since fans learned his contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling was set to end around February 2024. Ospreay has made it known he's looking to maximize whatever deal he can get. While opinions on who wrestling's "greatest" worker is, Ospreay's name always comes up on the short list of top workers competing in the industry.

There has been interest from many different promotions including the WWE, IMPACT Wrestling, and of course, AEW. New Japan Pro Wrestling has made it clear Ospreay is welcome to stay there but Ospreay's long-term goals may not match up with what New Japan has to offer.

If Ospreay does show up, it will be a disappointment for the WWE, which has expressed interest but is unable to even talk with Ospreay without New Japan's permission. Signing Ospreay show another benefit of the working relationship between AEW and New Japan as it would suggest New Japan allowed AEW to speak with him. There may even be some sort of quid pro quo between the two promotions that facilitated this early deal.

Whatever the case, Full Gear is just over 24 hours away and we should know soon who AEW's big signing is.
