Antitrust Lawsuit Reportedly Has Reached a Settlement

Have the WWE and MLW settled an antitrust lawsuit? Major League Wrestling (MLW) filed an antitrust lawsuit against the WWE, claiming the company acted to keep MLW from competing against the WWE.

Now, Wrestlenomics' Brandon Thurston is reporting:

What Was the Lawsuit All About?

The lawsuit has been going on for some time, with various procedural motions filed as it appeared the case was headed to trial. However, what was the lawsuit all about? The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online's Ian Carey sums things up as follows:

MLW first filed its antitrust suit against WWE in January 2022. It alleged WWE put pressure on third parties, such as streaming service Tubi TV, to abandon relationships with MLW. The lawsuit also alleged WWE put pressure on Vice TV to stop working with MLW as well.

It's unknown what the terms of the pending settlement are, and it's likely we'll never know because many settlements come with nondisclosure agreements that state that neither party can discuss the settlement.

MLW's case against the WWE has been interesting to industry observers due to the allegations made against the WWE. The WWE has been accused of some questionable business practices in the past such as tampering with contracted talent. MLW's allegations could have exposed the WWE to some negative publicity if the case made it to trial if the allegations proved valid. However, going to trial is always risky and MLW may have felt whatever deal they've reached with the WWE is worth skipping the risk of a trial.

WrestleLamia will continue following this developing story.
