Will McIntyre's Contract Status Affect His Push?
Time to look at Drew McIntyre's uncertain WWE future. Is Drew McIntyre staying in the WWE? While “The Scottish Warrior’s” contract is expected to run through until around WrestleMania 40, there have been rumors of the WWE trying to get McIntyre to ink a new deal. Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed Drew’s contract status during a recent Wrestling Observer Radio, with Meltzer noting of McIntyre’s status:
“I could check, but I do not believe he’s re-signed.”

Wrestling News’ Andrew Ravens discussed Drew’s leave of absence earlier this year:
...McIntyre took a hiatus from WWE after WrestleMania 39, which was at a time when he was reportedly frustrated with creative and the talks for a new WWE deal that expires next year.
McIntyre is scheduled to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at Crown Jewel and some fans believe Drew will win the title. However, would the WWE put the belt on someone whose stay in the company is winding down? Dave Meltzer discussed this, noting:
“Oh no, they were gonna push him. He’s solid through April. There’s time. You can do whatever you want with him through April. So the deal is that his contract was to expire at the end of the year, but because of all the injury time accrued, it’s April. So I mean, they’re not at a point where I would say it’s dangerous or we are at a turning point or don’t put the title on him, which they’ve done before. They’ve had champions, Bret Hart, Jeff Jarrett, where guy’s contracts were up.”

In the event Drew were to win the belt, the WWE would have plenty of time to get it off him. There’s also the chance a third run with a world championship could persuade Drew that the WWE has a strong plan for him as opposed to the meaningless feuds he’s had since dropping the WWE Championship to The Miz nearly three years ago.
Drew McIntyre is one of the WWE's most reliable performers. His ring skills, microphone work, and size make him a credible main eventer. However, he brings extra value to the table due to his toughness. It's been well-documented that McIntyre has worked hurt for extended periods of time in order to ensure the WWE has a top-tier performer available. Is it worth McIntyre's efforts though if the WWE doesn't utilize him properly?
The good news is that McIntyre seems to have a meaty storyline he can sink his teeth into; that of the disgruntled babyface who is tired of looking out for everyone else at the cost of his career. Drew looks to be turning heel (which could liven up his career) and may even have some business with The Judgment Day. While these developments are encouraging, are they just a carrot to tempt McIntyre into signing a new deal and what would his future in the WWE look like?
What do you think is next for McIntyre? Should he stick around in the WWE or try his luck elsewhere?
