He has a point.
Drew McIntyre was recently interviewed by Cultaholic, and McIntyre had a brutal take on an infamous 2022 booking decision.
At the 2022 Clash at the Castle event in Wales, McIntyre lost to Roman Reigns, and then after the match, he awkwardly began to sing with Tyson Fury. This was incredibly frustrating for fans in attendance, and McIntyre shared a similar sentiment:
“I was so happy getting Clash in Wales and getting the first stadium show since SummerSlam 92’ and getting the main event, I wasn’t happy getting screwed and the worst moment of my life singing that stupid song afterwards. But I’m very happy that you preserved, you believed, you kept working and you might just get a redo and it’s not just a redo, it couldn’t be any more perfect. It’s literally in Glasgow, where I went to Uni for 4 years. 30 minutes from here is where I grew up. We’ve gotta make it right this time because me, my family, the UK can’t take another shot through the heart like what happened last time…”
McIntyre is set to challenge Damian Priest next weekend for the World Title. Logic would assume that McIntyre will finally win the big one in the UK, yet it’s entirely possible that CM Punk costs McIntyre the title. If WWE goes down this route of having Punk cost McIntyre the World Title, then they have to be extremely careful with how they handle the booking. The crowd may start a riot if McIntyre is screwed again, and it may impact Punk’s popularity as a babyface moving forward.
Earlier in the year, it seemed like McIntyre vs. Punk for the World Title was going to be the destination for WWE come SummerSlam; however, Gunther’s King of the Ring win threw a spanner in the works. Gunther is now guaranteed a World Title match at SummerSlam, so this has led to speculation that McIntyre vs. Punk will take place without the World Title being on the line. It’s possible that McIntyre drops the title before SummerSlam (if he wins the gold that is), but this would give McIntyre an extremely short run with the title.
