New Details Emerge on CM Punk's Injury
Did Punk's Injury lead to a different Royal Rumble winner? CM Punk reportedly suffered a torn tricep during The Royal Rumble but opted to continue performing. However, if reports from The Wrestling Observer and PWInsider are accurate, Punk won't be able to work WrestleMania.
PWInsider provided more details on the rumored injury:
The belief among sources we have spoken with is that post-surgery, Punk would likely need in the area of 4-6 months of recovery and physical therapy. Â If correct, that would obviously put him out of Wrestlemania as a wrestler and if he gets the surgery within the next week, it likely means he wouldn't be able to return to the ring until this summer in a best case scenario.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider also noted:
A review of the match shows that Punk may have been injured taking a double underhook DDT from Drew McIntyre. Â Punk rolled out of the ring holding his left arm and was seen speaking to a WWE referee following that spot.

Now, Fightful Select is providing more details on whether Punk's reported injury changed The Royal Rumble's outcome:
For those asking, we have not heard that the Cody Rhodes Royal Rumble win was an audible due to the injury.

There was plenty of speculation about who would win this year's Rumble, including The Rock showing up and earning a shot against Roman Reigns. There was also conjecture that Gunther might win and go after Rollins. Gunther boasted on the 22 January RAW that he intended to win the Rumble and challenge Seth at WrestleMania. There have been conflicting reports about whether Cody would wrestle Roman, but it's believed to be the plan, and if the Fightful report is accurate, it was always the plan going into the Rumble.
This isn't the first time Punk has suffered a triceps injury. Punk suffered a triceps injury during his time in AEW, leading to him missing several months. PWInsider pointed out that Punk's triceps injury in AEW was on his right arm, whereas this is on his left.
If Punk is injured, it's the latest instance of an injury threatening a major match at WrestleMania. Seth Rollins suffered a torn MCL and partial meniscus tear on the 15 January RAW during his match against Jinder Mahal. There were concerns Rollins might miss 'Mania due to the injury. However, it appears Rollins will rehab the knee and work through the injury.
WrestleLamia will continue monitoring this story.
