A questionable card...
We are just weeks away from SummerSlam 2024, and the card is already shaping up.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), these are the matches set for the show:
“At press time, these matches were confirmed on the schedule:
- “Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa for the WWE title
- Damian Priest vs. Gunther for the world title
- Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley for the women’s world title. Regarding Ripley being cleared, we were told it was strongly expected and that this match would take place.
- Bayley vs. Nia Jax for the WWE women’s title
- Logan Paul vs. LA Knight for the U.S. title
- Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breakker for the IC title, and I can’t see Breakker losing two in a row, so it may just be that they wanted to crown Breakker at SummerSlam at a stadium. This was listed as the match earlier in the week. On TV they did insert Ilja Dragunov into the program so it’s possible it could turn into a three-way.
- I would presume C.M. Punk vs. Drew McIntyre in some form. Obviously this comes down to whether Punk is cleared, but at last word they were very hopeful of that. From TV, I expected it to be a three-way with Seth Rollins, but a three-way was not in the plans, but Rollins having some involvement looks likely.
- Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark (with Sonya Deville) and/or Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill and/or a Damage Ctrl team. There was talk of a women’s tag title match to be held that weekend, so it could be PPV or at the Smackdown or Raw TV that weekend.”
