Judgement Day man had held the briefcase for 281 days before WrestleMania 40.

Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract night two of WrestleMania 40 - successfully.

‘The Archer of Infamy’ rushed to the ring following Drew McIntyre’s poignant victory of the World Heavyweight Championship over Seth Rollins in ‘Mania night two’s opening contest. CM Punk, who was sat on commentary and who had been goaded by McIntyre at several points during the title quest, attacked ‘The Scottish Warrior’, using his arm brace as a weapon.

After a briefcase shot to the head at ringside, Damian Priest officially cashed in his briefcase, utilising only a South of Heaven in the official match to lift his first WWE World Championship. Priest celebrated on-stage with The Judgement Day, whose championship catalogue also currently consists of the Women’s World Championship.

The cash-in marked Damian Priest’s second match of the weekend; he and Finn Balor defended their Undisputed Tag Team Championships on night one of WrestleMania 40, dropping the Raw and SmackDown doubles titles to The Awesome Truth and A-Town Down Under, respectively.

Damian Priest Made History As Mr Money In The Bank

Though there had been continuous debate surrounding whether his eventual cash-in would’ve - and indeed should’ve - been successful, Damian Priest’s tenure with the Money in the Bank briefcase made WWE history.

Lifting the contract at the titular Premium Live Event on July 1, 2023, Damian Priest held the briefcase for 281 days, which is the longest any male has ever held the case. He broke the record previously held by Edge, which sat at 280 days between WrestleMania 21 on April 3, 2005 and New Year’s Revolution on January 8, 2006.
