The American Nightmare’s American Dream comes true at last.

Cody Rhodes has defeated Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40: Night Two.

‘The American Nightmare’ toppled Reigns after over thirty minutes of their Bloodline Rules-sanctioned brawl, downing him following a trinity of Cross Rhodes’. Cody’s victory ends Roman Reigns’ historical reign as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at 1,316 days, the first time the title has changed hands since the 2020 Payback.

As was expected, the match featured a glut of run-ins, starting when Jimmy Uso Superkicked Cody as he attempted a Cross Rhodes earlier in the match. He was seen off by Jey Uso, who tackled his twin brother off the stage. Solo Sikoa, who cost Cody Rhodes the title at WrestleMania 39, was next, though he was sent crashing through the Spanish announcer’s table by a returning John Cena.

From there, The Rock laid out Cena with a Rock Bottom, before The Undertaker emerged from the darkness to Chokeslam ‘The Final Boss’. Seth Rollins also made a brief appearance, clad in his Shield gear, though he was hit with a steel chair before he could inflict any damage.

How Did Cody Rhodes Celebrate?

While ring announcer Samantha Irvin struggled to get the words out of her mouth, Cody Rhodes celebrated his first few moments as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion with his wife, Brandi Rhodes, while a gaggle of WWE Superstars joined him in the ring for a celebratory lap of the squared circle, including Jey Uso, Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens. Rhodes’ mother and stepfather, Brodie Lee, Jr., and other family members and friends joined ‘The American Nightmare’ to soak in the feeling.

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, and Bruce Prichard, the Executive Director of WWE, were requested by Cody Rhodes himself to be part of the celebrations. WWE President Nick Khan was also shown as the show faded into the end-of-night video package, embracing Cody.
