"American Dragon" Treated for Broken Orbital Bone

Bryan Danielson's latest surgery is over. "The American Dragon" was recently treated for a broken orbital bone. It now remains to be seen what's next for the highly-regarded AEW wrestler.

Apparently there was confusion over when Danielson suffered the injury. Wrestling News' Andrew Ravens is reporting:

The initial belief was he suffered it while working a tag team match with Claudio Castagnoli against Orange Cassidy and Kazuchika Okada on last week’s Dynamite. Instead, it reportedly happened when he clashed heads with Andrade in a recent match.

Ravens noted that AEW's Tony Schiavone stated that Danielson is expected back later in the year.

It's been a bad year injury-wise for Danielson. Danielson underwent surgery over the summer after he broke his arm at Forbidden Door. Danielson tweeted:

There's always an extra amount of concern when Danielson suffers an injury. Danielson was forced to retire once due to in-ring injuries. In 2018 he surprised the world when he announced he was cleared for competition. A 2018 report from CBS Sports explained what had happened:

Bryan, 36, who formally retired in February 2016 due to concussion issues, has been formally cleared by three outside neurosurgeons, neurologists and concussion experts, including the well-known Dr. Robert Cantu. WWE medical director Dr. Joseph Maroon has also cleared Bryan to return.

At 42, Danielson theoretically has several years left to wrestle (although he has discussed semi-retirement in the near future). However, given the various injuries he's suffered, he may want to reevaluate his decision. Whether it deserves it or not, AEW has gained a reputation as a place where wrestlers work a hard-hitting style, which, critics claim make for more injuries than in other promotions. AEW recently instituted a new policy on which moves can be performed, presumably to reduce injuries. Nonetheless, injuries can occur while working the safest of styles given the physical nature of wrestling.

WrestleLamia will continue following this story and sends its best wishes to Bryan Danielson for a fast and full recovery.
