AEW will again pay tribute to the late ‘King of Harts’ this summer.

The Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will again be held in AEW over the next two months.

Dr Martha Hart, the widow of the great Owen Hart, confirmed the news during the Buy In to 2024’s Double or Nothing, joined by Tony Khan, who confirmed that the winners of the each the men’s and women’s tournaments would earn an opportunity at the AEW World and Women’s World Championship, respectively, at All In from Wembley Stadium. Furthermore, the finals for the tournament were set for Dynamite’s Wednesday, July 10 broadcast, live from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. News of the finals date had previously leaked via the Calgary Herald.

First announced by AEW in September 2021, the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament has been held annually since 2022. Adam Cole and Dr Britt Baker, D.M.D came out on top in the inaugural field while in 2023, Ricky Starks and Willow Nightingale found themselves holding the memorial championships aloft.

How AEW Has Honoured The Hart Family

AEW’s relationship with the illustrious Hart family dates back to the company’s inauguration, as Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart stood in-ring at the 2019 Double or Nothing to unveil the AEW World Championship.

Striking a working relationship with Dr Martha Hart and the Owen Hart Foundation, however, wasn’t going to be as easy. Martha has remained adamant that Owen Hart will never again be associated with WWE following the tragedy surrounding his 1999 passing - but AEW, Tony Khan especially, has proven that Martha made the right call in allowing Owen’s memory to live in through a promotion he never got the chance to compete for.

Their relationship goes beyond the annual tournament, officially licensed merchandise, and a video game appearance, though, as Tony Khan requested Martha Hart’s permission to have Sting lower from the rafters on an edition of AEW Dynamite. It marked the first time ‘The Icon’ had made his acclaimed entrance since TNA’s Slammiversary pay-per-view in 2007.
